Mentions and Tasks in Confluence (Assign Follow-ups With a Due Date)
Turn meeting follow-ups into Confluence tasks: a tick box, an at mention for the owner, and a due date. The owner gets told, and ticks the task off when it is done.
Step by step
Follow-ups
- Mentions and tasks. A follow-up without an owner and a date never gets done. In Confluence, a task, a mention and a due date fix that. Let me show you.
- New page. From the project overview, click create, and pick page. Call it checkout follow-ups, and press enter to go into the page.
Task, owner, date
- A task. A short line first. Then type two square brackets and a space. Confluence turns it into a task with a tick box. Write what needs doing.
- An owner. Now the owner. Type the at sign and the start of a name. Confluence lists the matching people. Pick Prince. The name turns into a blue mention, and Prince gets a notification about this task.
- A due date. Then the date. Type by, and two slashes. Press enter to add a date. A calendar opens. Go to next month, and pick the day it is due. Now the task says what, who, and by when.
- One per line. Press enter for the next task. Same pattern. What needs doing, then the at sign and the owner. Press enter to pick the name.
Share it
- Publish. Click publish, and publish again to confirm.
- Tick it off. Published. Prince now sees both tasks in his own task list. When the test cases are written, he ticks the box right here on the page.
Recap
- What, who, when. So, two square brackets and a space make a task. The at sign adds the owner. Two slashes add the due date. One task per line, then publish.
